YASP (Yet Another Service Provider)

Well here we go again. We're moving ISP from our current provider (bethere.co.uk) to a shiny new one (Virgin) in order to get the high bandwidth we deserve. Our current sub is for a 24Mb line, however, the download speed on it is a pitiful 6Mb. This I am reliably informed by my ISP is because of the quality of BT copper wires running to my property. My alternative plan involves selecting an ISP who provides a different backbone to the BT copper. There is only one ISP who fits this bill and they recently cabled our area. Enter Virgin media, often slated in past for poor customer service and crappy networks. I'm prepared to give Virgin a fair chance however as so far they have been very helpful and indeed they have not had the usual level of quibble associated with mass market service provision.

Well, we've been with Virgin

Well, we've been with Virgin for a month now and I must say all is VERY well indeed. I have nothing bad to say about them at all. I was initially skeptical, but I'm really glad I have moved to them as an ISP.

As for the TV, the on-demand feature ROCKS! I pretty much just watch on demand TV and movies from the Virgin repository. I even prefer to record my favorite shows and watch them after they are downloaded because then I can skip through the ads.

All in all, I recommend them to all.

The worst thing about moving

The worst thing about moving ISP has been the fact the Sky won't stop phoning me to try to get me to move back to them. Even though I have explained (many times at great length) that I left them to get the 20Mb Internet package with Virgin and that me moving had nothing to do with their TV service. They continue to phone me to try to tempt me with their sales pitch.

In short they are now annoying me. Sky staff have been rude and dismissive to my wife who explained to them (again) why we moved and that we won't be coming back because blah blah blah... their response to this was "your husband has to tell us that, we're not going to talk to you" I *have* told them of course, they're just too bloody stupid to make a note of it and stop calling me.

Suffice to say, I'll never go back to Sky for anything now. Even though I was once a happy TV customer for years because their predatory sales activity makes me want to shoot people and they have actively driven me away.

Stupid stupid Sky... if you knew when to shut up and leave people alone you may have more customers coming back to you after a time away.
